Badges that show someone is genuine

These tell you a member's identity or profile has been checked.

The ID Verified tick

Shows that a member has verified their identity with official ID. When you see it, you can be confident the person matches their photos, which makes life much harder for catfish. According to Plenty More Fish's own figures, verified members get around 15 times more interaction from others.

How to get it: Verify your profile with a government ID. It's optional and free for every member, whether you're on a free account or VIP.

The validation badge

Shows that a member of the Plenty More Fish team has reviewed and approved the profile. It's a good alternative for anyone who'd rather not share identity documents.

How to get it: Ask for admin profile validation. A team member checks your profile, and no sensitive documents are needed.

Members can also confirm who they are with a live video check with a moderator, which needs no documents at all.

Badges you earn by being a good member

These reward people who are friendly, active and responsive.

The Anti-Ghosting badge

Shows that a member consistently replies to their messages. Before you start a conversation, you can see who has a good track record of responding, so you're less likely to be left hanging.

How to get it: Reply to your messages, even when it's a polite no. The one-click replies make it quick and kind.

Chatterbox, Heartthrob and Most Popular

Badges you earn through your activity on the site. They show other members you're real, active and worth getting to know.

How to get it: Be active: keep your profile up to date, join in on the discovery feed, and chat to people.

The community safety badge

Awarded to members who help keep Plenty More Fish safe by reporting fake or suspicious profiles.

How to get it: Use the report button on any profile that doesn't seem right. Do enough good deeds and you'll earn it.

Member ratings

Every member has a rating that other members can vote up or down.

Ratings reflect how people behave and how others feel about talking to them, so they encourage kind, genuine conversations. Members who reach a 5 out of 5 rating really stand out. When you're deciding who to message, a high rating is a good sign.

A badge is a good sign, not a guarantee. Plenty of genuine members simply haven't verified yet, and it's still worth trusting your instincts. For the red flags to look out for, read how to spot a fake dating profile.

Why it's worth earning them

Badges help you stand out and show people at a glance that you're genuine and worth replying to. Start with the ID Verified tick, reply to your messages, and get involved. The rest tends to follow. For more ways to make a great first impression, read My online dating profile: nailed it!
